Etta received her Masters of Science at Creighton University, Omaha,
Nebraska. Additional graduate classes were taken from Grace University,
Omaha, Nebraska to obtain her mental health license.
For the last seventeen years Etta has been a public school counselor.
During that time she was instrumental in implementing the first
elementary counseling program for the school district. She has spent the
last five years at the middle school level working with students in
grades sixth through eight, as well as numerous high school students. In
the last year Etta has had the privilege to counsel adults which she has
found to be very rewarding.
Etta's counseling theory is eclectic but centers around DBT, dialectical
behavior therapy. DBT assists individuals to better regulate their
emotions, to help them face feelings and to increase their sense of
personal identity. Dialectical behavior therapy teaches four critically
important skills that can both reduce the size of emotional waves and
help maintain a balance when emotions seem overwhelming.
Helping and caring for people has always been a passion of hers, and
that is why she enjoys being a counselor.
